The Four Causes

Education

Through an education that is grounded in the Himalayan culture, children will grow up to be proud of their roots, while still being in touch with the modern-day development. The Druk White Lotus School has been doing just that.” - His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa

The Druk White Lotus School (also known as Druk Padma Karpo Institute) provides a modern education, grounded in Ladakhi culture, that prepares the Ladakhi children to lead happy and productive lives.

The school is named after the Fourth Gyalwang Drukpa, Kunkhyen Pema Karpo (1527-1592), a greatly admired scholar in the entire Tibetan Buddhism, who traveled extensively in the Himalayas.

“Children are innocent and vulnerable. It is our duty to protect and nourish them. Don't let them live a life of fear and distress.” - His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa

Environment

“Whether we like it or not, we all live in one common home. The earth is the only home that we share.” - His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa

Heritage

“A spiritual heritage can only be sustained by qualified spiritual practitioners who can carry on the spiritual tradition for the benefit of others. A heritage is not just a building or a historical monument, a heritage can be something which is still alive and still contributing to the positive development of human nature.”

- His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa

Spiritual education is badly needed to sustain the spiritual legacy that has donned the history of Ladakh for the past millennium. With the Drukpa Lineage being probably the most dominant spiritual tradition in Ladakh, His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa sees this as an opportune time to establish a full-fledged monastic school for young monks.

Words of Wisdom

On this small planet, in the daily dreams of our life, beneficial deeds are always recommended, simply because we are all born to help each other.

By sharing our love with different expressions and through the practice of generosity, morality and understanding, we will then be fulfilling our purpose of being members of the human race.
