In times of difficulties when it is most difficult to practice generosity, a little does make a huge difference for the less fortunate ones. Cultivating generosity when the world suffers a financial crises is likened to growing a flower on a desert land, which seems to be impossible. However looking at the beautiful lotus emerging from the filthy mud, we may just have overlooked the fact that the most magnificent qualities of a human being are normally brought out in the most difficult circumstances. It is when you see others' suffering that you appreciate your own life and understand how fortunate you are. It is when you make others happy that you find happiness for yourself.
We are not asking a lot to help the Himalayan children. Sponsorship of US$30 per km only equates the following luxury that we can consider not to have on certain days:
- buying a new dress or a new shirt for work
- having a sumptuous meal with friends (or sometimes a meal by yourself in a good restaurant)
- giving yourself a spa treatment
- going for a a facial treatment
- buying a piece of art
- going for a pedicure or a manicure
- buying a piece of jewelry
- getting a birthday gift for a friend (how about telling the birthday boy/girl that you have given his/her gift to a child in the Himalayas)
- etc. etc.
The smiles of these children definitely worth much more than US$30 per km. Tell a friend and walk the talk!
